History and Development of DAWN (Diwa Asian Women’s Network):
DAWN was founded in 1993, as a voluntary organisation by a group of women from varying professional backgrounds. It operates from its offices at 1 St Kilda’s Road, Harrow. It was converted to a charitable trust and registered with UK Charity Commissionaires under Registration No: 1080649, in May 2000.
Our mission is to alleviate isolation and distress in society by focusing on the needs of Asian women alienated by lack of opportunities arising from various cultural or linguistic barriers peculiar to their situation. DAWN provides a culturally sensitive safe environment for women to meet, socialise and empower each other through their experiences and raise any concerns. We also provide recreational and educational seminars, workshops, talks and classes throughout the year to promote continual growth and self-development.
